SHELBY DONALD, MPT
Functional Mobility Specialist
Certified Geriatric Care Professional
Shelby serves the beachside community of Carpinteria, CA with comprehensive in-home physical therapy treatment for all conditions and all generations.
She graduated from California State University, Long Beach in 2012 with a Master's Degree in Physical Therapy. Since then, she has been serving clients in the Long Beach and South Bay areas both in client’s homes and in out-patient and hospital settings. She specializes in stroke rehabilitation, Parkinson's disease (she is an LSVT BIG-certified therapist), whole body rehabilitation after severe illness, and acute/chronic pain as a result of musculo-skeletal movement dysfunction.
In 2017, Shelby became a certified yoga instructor to help heal bodies of every shape, size, age and ability level. She sees the benefit of incorporating yoga into physical therapy treatments for whole body strengthening, postural awareness, flexibility, breathing, mindfulness, relaxation and pain management.
The Grounded Physical Therapy approach uses many forms of evidenced-based exercise and manual therapy to help heal aching muscles and promote improved functional ability. Her evaluation process looks at the whole body, as an integrated unit, to determine sources of imbalance that may be contributing to pain or dysfunction. She stresses the importance of correct movement patterns, starting from your feet, and learning how this effects alignment up the skeletal chain. Shelby educates you thoroughly so you have confidence to manage your own condition and prevent further injury. Her goal is to empower you to better develop your posture and self-awareness as you move in your day-to-day life.
A key part of Grounded Physical Therapy treatment sessions are customized exercise programs and specific education for each client to promote independent recovery, minimize healing time, and reduce the number of office visits. After your first 60-minute evaluation session with Shelby, you will feel completely supported on your road to recovery.
